San Francisco, Kaliforniya'da doğdu. Silvorstonenin babası Londra taraflarından bir yahudi, annesi ise evliliğinden önce yahudiliği kabul etmiştir. Silverstone üç çocuğun en küçüğüdür ve bir üvey kız kardeşi ve bir üvey erkek kardeşi vardır. San Mateo Yüksekokuluna kayıt yaptırmış ancak bitirememiştir. Yaz tatilinde İngiltere'ye gitti ve burada henüz 6 yaşında modellik yapmaya başladı ve reklam filmlerinde rol almaya başladı.
İlk olarak Aerosmith müzik videoları tanınmış, daha sonra Clueless ile Batman&Robin gibi Hollywood filmlerinde rol almıştır. Öldüren Cazibe (1987), The Crush (1993), Fırlama Kızlar (1995) ve Excess Baggage (1997) gibi yapımlarla tanınmıştır.
