Tam adı Gary Dale Farmer'dir. Syracuse University ve Ryerson Polytechnic University'de fotoğrafçılık ve film yapımcılığı üzerine eğitim aldı. İlk kez 1983 yılında yayımlanan The Littlest Hobo dizisiyle oyunculuğa başlamıştır. Polis Okulu (1984), Tarikat (1987), The Big Town (1987), Hainler (1989), Tersyüz (2002), Coyote Waits (2003) ve A Thief of Time (2004) yapımları ve özellikle Dead Man (1995) filmindeki Nobody karakteriyle tanınmıştır.
